LCEM Celebrates with Bishop Scantlebury - October 2009

LCEM Churches welcomed the Rt. Rev. Victor Scantlebury at Christ Church, Ottawa, on October 25 with a liturgy of Holy Eucharist, Confirmations and Receptions, as previously had been announced in the Ottawa Times. Members of all four congregations were present to greet the bishop, hear his message and celebrate our faith. Father Mark Geisler joined Father John Crist in co-celebration with Bishop Scantlebury. The day was especially significant for the confirmands: Rebecca Henry, Justin Martin, Alice Salt, Harry Salt, Emily Swain, Dean Thomas, Dylan Thomas, Mary Brandt, Paul Salt and Sally Salt, as well as Diane DiGregorio, Leslie Suppan, Karen Cohrs and Michelle Hendershott, who were received into the Anglican Communion by Bishop Scantlebury. MaryFran Crist, who led the confirmation group in their preparation for the sacrament, noted that this was one of the largest groups we've had in several years and that working with them was also special for Father John and MaryFran, as this was the last confirmation group they will lead before their retirement. The bishop spoke movingly to the young confirmands, advising them to listen to their parents as they navigate their way to adulthood.

The congregation then enjoyed a luncheon and the bishop met with the members of the LCEM board, vestries and committees. Thank you to all who helped make this day special for our community!
